What a joke...

Bought a cheap rod tip replacement kit at Academy a few weeks ago. Came with 3 different tips, and a stick of "Rod tip glue" and instructions for installing the new rod tip.

Well it was just a fancy stick of hot glue... I wondered how that would hold up.

It held up pretty well actually, through many bass, bream, catfish and 10+ pound grass carp.

Until today.... after stopping by a little pond and pulling in a 10 pound grassie, I got home and saw the tip was off-center. Re-installed it with some Super Glue fix-all adhesive, and hope that will hold up a lot longer.

Seriously, who thinks hot glue is a good idea for attaching your rod eyes? I have used hot glue for many different things so I have a good idea of its limitations... I'd say in the case of this cheap rod repair kit, you get what you pay for.

I used one of those tip repair kits once, too. Had a similar "what the @#$%?" moment when I saw the glue stick. Used Gorilla super glue and, so far anyway, it's been ok.

I take it you didn't wrap it after you secured it with hot glue? Best if you wrap it and then epoxy the wraps....
I don't think the tip is supposed to be wrapped... it slides over the end of the rod, and is glued in place. I don't think the original was glued with hot glue... anyway, hope the new glue I put in holds out a while.
