I normally don't start catching rockfish untl the middle of May but with all my chores done and a beautiful day yesterday, I decided to give it a go just for fun. As luck would have it I not only saw several fish, but I had three pretty good hits with one solid hookup. This fish weighed in at 29 pounds on the boga grips. A great first fish of the season. I didn't measure the fish but it had the rough length of a 20-25 pound fish with a giant belly. I did the best I could with the selfie before cradling it back in the water to hopefully live and catch another day.

That is a beauty.

I caught one on light tackle at Herb Parson's in Fayette county. Fought really well and I was pretty excited to until I saw it was a 6 inch hatchling.

Cannot imagine the fight from that one. Congrats on a great catch.
 
I am going to find them on the caney fork or the cumberland, and soon.

So far, I have caught just over 400 hybrids on Priest. Half topwater and half on lipless crankbait. It has been a good year so far and getting better.

I've done a little hybrid fishing this year on Priest as well. Not the type numbers you are talking about but had a decent couple of days. For hard fighting never quit fish, you can't beat a hybrid. For 5 minutes of panic and adrenaline, you can't beat a 25 lb+ rockfish.

so if a man someday wanted to tangle with one on a fly rod, Priest or cumberland, might be a place to look for some shallower fish?

If you are talking about hybrids then Priest is the place. Like I have seen Headhunter say in previous post, you have to put in the time to hunt for them and they move around quite a bit but once you find them you can sit on them for quite awhile and catch them.
 
Awesome, I would love to find some that size, biggest I've ever caught is 17 pounds.

And here's one from yesterday afternoon. Once again a short fish with a giant belly. This one was 28lbs. Not seeing a lot of fish but I'm getting quality for certain.
