Ok I picked up a 700 ADL in 25/06 off of the classifieds yesterday and the first step is to get some glass on it. Probably going to go with VX-2 3x9x40mm or maybe a Vortex. Which rings and bases everyone using? I used leupold and talley before. maybe Warne? Open to suggestions on which one's to go with. Thanks.

I see nothing wrong with the old tried and true Redfield design that Leupold sells. I'm talking about the dovetail front and windage adjusting rear. It works. Unless you just want to try something different purely for the sake of being different. I don't even know the number of rifles that I have with these and aside from the 460 Weatherby, which is terribly hard on scopes and mounts, I've never had an issue with them.

I really dig the new one piece DNZ mounts . Rock solid and fool proof mounting . Pica tinny for long range application dialing scopes .

Been using DNZ mount for the last few years. Very happy with them.

Thats kinda what I figured. if it aint broke dont fix it :D Will the low rings work? or do I need to go up to medium?

I've always used medium rings for a 40mm objective. Now I can't say that I've ever tried a set of Low rings or even measured the gap between the objective and barrel to see if a set of Low rings would have worked. Try at your own risk.

I use Warne rings and bases on most everything and they are excellent bang for the buck. The only thing I might suggest is going with a picatinny rail for the base. Depending on what scope you buy and how much tube length it has, the picatinny rail will give you more flexibility in mounting it for proper eye relief.

Lows work well for 40mm and up to 42mm depending on Manufacture,

Medium as a general rual will work for most 44mm and some 50mm depending on manufacture.

High for most 50mm and above.

Thanks all for the suggestions. Went with the standard Leopold rings and bases on a 3x9x40 VX-2. I need to set up a 783 in 270 that i picked up cheap so I may experiment some with that.

Did you buy the one at Academy that has been on clearance for months at $269. If so, thank you. It tempts me every time I go in and I have no need for it.

The 783? I picked one up on sale at Academy in december and used the Remington $40 rebate also. This one had the cheap scope. That one with no scope i have been eyeing to, but I decided to pick up a ADL in 25/06 instead off of the classifieds. going to make it a lite weight gun.

I just dropped by there at lunch and saw that the 783 in .270 for $269 is still there. They sell the new ADL's for $379 and they always have a 25-06. Every 3 months or so they put them on sale for $359.
