I dont know much about rifles and scopes like many on here do so thats why Im here asking for help.
Here's what I do know Im going to buy what I hope will be my very last .22 rifle and it will be a Savage A22
Most all my shots will be at varmints or shooting close to a dog or cat to scare it away and those ranges would be roughly between 15 to 100 yards.
Once I get my scope sighted in I dont intend on changing it. I dont get into plinking or testing of any kind.
I really do care about trying to have a fairly large objective for more light and hopefully clarity.
My price range is roughly between 200 to 400. I really want a quality piece of glass due to my age and eye sight.

That Leupold would be an excellent choice. Based on the application you have stated, I would stay away from 50mm objective, at the distances you are shooting you won't notice much, if any difference, but the scope will cost more. A quality 40mm will outperform an average 50mm. Also, a 50mm will require high scope rings, not something you want for short ranges. You want the scope mounted as low as you can get.

I have Leupolds, Vortex, Nikon and others. I can get a good sight picture with all and all perform well as far as accuracy. But the Leupolds are the easiest, fastest to get a sight picture with the eye glasses I have. (Progressives)

I have the Leupold on my Tikka T1x and love it. That rifle and scope combo will shoot 1/2" or smaller groups at 50 yards with about any kind of ammo. I also have a Burris Droptine rimfire scope and have found it to be excellent as well. The Droptine is only around $120 so it is well below your price range.
