Rifle porting question

Hey guys,

It's been a while since I've had anything to post in the rifle forum but I have a question. I had an implant put in this past week and sounds like I should be ok. I have a rifle that I am going to either have ported or a screw on device on the barrel to relieve recoil. I'm needing to get the recoil to as minimal a level as possible. It will be done on a 7-08 remington cdl. I don't know if magnaport is a better option(permanent barrel alter) or getting a vais brake or something along that line. Thanks.

Have you looked into a mercury recoil surpressor? I is something you can purchase and install in the stock yourself.

I have one in my Browning A-5 and it made a world of difference in taming the recoil, big differnce for sure.

Also, it is removable if you choose to sell the gun.

I had the same problem last year caused by a subdural hematoma and had to reduce recoil for some time. I wound up going to a lighter caliber, longer barrel, heavier rifle, lighter bullet situation. I dropped to a 25-06 with light bullets in a 26 inch varmint contour barrel and it was a good shooting rig. It's more to carry but I preferred that route to the increased noise of a muzzle brake. If you want to keep the same rifle a brake like the Vais or Harrell's will get you better results than the Magnaport and you can have a solid threaded cap made to fit the rifle if you should decide in the future that you don't want to use the muzzle brake. Getting older sure can be a pain.
