Removing Stain from receiver and Barrel

Been gone for a while, but I'm Baaack. and I need some advise from some "pros" , I am selling a collection of guns for a friend who passed recently. The less and mid priced guns went pretty fast, I do have one that appears the stock was refinished but it wasn't removed so I have stain on, (ironically), stainless receiver and plastics of a Mini 30 dropping the value I would think. What can I use to remove this?
 
Is it just stain, or varnish/poly?

I'd probably start with mineral spirits and then step up to acetone if that isn't working. Keep in mind that this will strip ALL oils, so you will need to follow up with a good coat or three of Remoil or some other metal protectant
