Remington model 700 trigger replacement

Remington has posted on their website an "economic loss class action lawsuit settlement" where they will replace the Model 700 (and other) triggers. These are the ones that have the potential to fire without pulling the trigger. They will install an x-mark Pro trigger at no cost and they pay shipping. I replaced my 30-06 trigger a few years ago myself with a Timney trigger but I have a Rem. Muzzleloader that may be eligible so I filed. The "Walker" style trigger being replaced has the problem of unintentional firing if a piece of dirt such as a weed seed gets into the trigger mechanism and can fire by just taking off the safety. The older guns required the safety to be off to unload so 5 years ago or so I sent my gun to Remington to modify it so the safety can remain on during loading and unloading.

If I am reading the right recall it looks like it is for 2006-2014 Model 700 and Model 7 with XMP triggers. I had my 1970's 700 modified by Remington about 5 years ago. Mine went off one day when hunting when I closed the bolt. Fortunately it was in a safe direction. Absolutely scared the h#ll out of me then and still does to this day. I've got a newer Model 7, was not aware of this current issue. I will be checking to see if it is on the list

They have been replacing them for quite sometime. Be sure to check the serial number you may not have to replace.

If you have one with an x mark pro trigger and the bolt release button inside the trigger guard has a pin size indention, you are good to go. That is how Remington marks the newer or replaced triggers

Check the website again - they have a recall which is different from the Walker trigger program. Look for the "economic loss class action lawsuit settlement" or similar wording program to click on.

Good gracious! My lil old Mod 710 wasn't included in the original recall, but it is on the list now! :shock:

Who's included?

The Settlement provides benefits to:
1.Current owners of Remington Model 700, Seven, Sportsman 78, 673, 710, 715, 770, 600, 660, XP-100, 721, 722, and 725 firearms containing a Remington trigger mechanism that utilizes a trigger connector;

2.Current owners of Remington Model 700 and Model Seven rifles containing an X-Mark Pro trigger mechanism manufactured from May 1, 2006 to April 9, 2014 who did not participate in the voluntary X-Mark Pro product recall prior to April 14, 2015; and

3.Current and former owners of Remington Model 700 and Model Seven rifles who replaced their rifle's original Walker trigger mechanism with an X-Mark Pro trigger mechanism.

I have a M700 that was on the recall list. I went ahead and got a Timney for it and kept the receipt. Remington was floating the idea of offering reimbursements for Timneys, but I haven't checked back in a while to see if that ever came to fruition.
