Ok, so I'm 100% new at slug guns,and also I hope I've posted this in the correct forum, so my problem is this, I am trying to sight in my 20g 870 with a rifled slug barrel, I'm using Remington Slugger 5/8 oz slugs, and a scope designed for shotguns, at 25 yards I'm always dead on but moving up to 50 yards I'm consistently 3 to 6 inches off either high or low. Just to add I'm using a shooting rest and the scope is very secure. Can anyone help, tell me a different load I should use or is this a common problem with shooting slugs. I'm getting very frustrated this is the third attempt to sight in the gun, and season is close by. Thanks!
 
Those slugger slugs are made for a smoothbore slug barrel. If you have a rifled slug barrel, you should be using a slug specifically for a rifled barrel for best performance.

Also, is your gun driled & tapped for scope mounts or are you using a cantilever barrel that has the scope rail on it?
 
Like Griz said try the accutips,I have a savage 220 and shoot around 1.5 groups at 100 yds and I'm not that good of a shot.I shoot the 2 3/4 recoil is not bad at all.

Ok guys so I bought some of the Remington Accutips and Hornady SST, both designed for fully rifled barrels, both shoot wonderfully, I've only been able to shoot at 50 yards so far, Dmonty you said your getting a good group at 100 yards, have you shot it at any further distances? Is 100 your comfortable limit? Based on where I plan on hunting with the gun I don't see a need to ever attempt a shot near 100 yards, but I'm curious.
 
100 is as far as range is set up for but I believe the gun would shoot further,but I don't know if I could do it justice.100 yds is about as far as I have ever had to shoot.
 
Rescue, the Remington Accutips are definitely the slugs you should be shooting. They come in both 2 3/4" and 3". The 3" are just slightly faster. My advice is to go to the Nikon Spot-On website and then just choose your setup---scope, shell, zero distance, etc. And it will show you where the slug will strike the target at any distance, which will allow for proper hold over. It's a very handy tool.
