Anyone else out there own a Remington 770? I recently purchased one mainly due to the price but I had read plenty of negative comments on the rifle beforehand. I don't like over trusting online posts on anything I buy but seeing all the posts had me concerned. I have not had any issues out of my rifle to date. It is chambered in a 300WSM. I know other folks out there have them and just curious on your experiences.
 
It's an economy rifle. To meet the price point they were after they had to do a few things that resulted in less than impressive quality although they seem to be fairly accurate rifles.

I didn't know they made them in WSM calibers though. Sure it isn't 300 Win Mag?
 
They're pretty decent guns built to a price point. I tell people if they can afford a 700, get one. If not, the 770 is fine.

You might want to double check that caliber stamp before you buy a bunch of ammo ;)
 
My sons .243 will shoot quarter sized groups all day with factory ammo.

I bought one a couple of years ago for my girls in .243. They can shoot soda can sized groups at 125 with it, and they don't shoot much. I have shot it and can drop half dollar sized groups at the same distance. The big thing I hate is the bolt. After a few rounds, it seems to stick really badly. At times I have to "hammer" the bolt with the palm of my hand to get it to open. Once, it took a hammer itself. You'd think a gunsmith would spend some time on his kids' gun.

What do you think is the problem that wouldn't show up until several shots are fired? When I hear of a sticking bolt handle my 1st thought is a real hot handload...... But in that case the 1st one would be just as prone to "sticking" the bolt as the last shot.
