Never had one or even fired one. But I have stumbled on one in .35 whelen and for the price, I don't think I can pass it up. Just looking for somebody that has or has had one to share their thoughts on the rifle.
 
I love my .30-06 Rem 760, as it is accurate and handles well. Many consider the 760 in 35 Rem the ultimate poor man's thummper. I would love to have one some day. If you take your time and treat them right, a 760 will shoot as accurately as many bolt actions when using handloads. If I had the funds and found one at a reasonable price, there is no way that I would pass one up!

BTW, you can do a $20 trigger job on them that brings the pull down to about 2.5lb. It is as simple as swapping out a spring.
 
I meant Whelen, not Rem, sorry for the confusion. I would much rather have the .30-06 based Whelen any day of the week. I will have to track down where I got my spring from. It may be tomorrow before I can do that.
 
They want 250 for it but I just looked at it and it was originally a .35 remington but rechambered for .35 whelen. I'm kind of iffy about it now. Would the mags work for the whelen?

My 760 will shoot MOA. I consistently get sub 1" groups out of the ugly old gun with Hornady 165gr SP/IL over 57gr of IMR4350. IF you were to look at the gun you would never believe it, but looks can be deceiving. Remington originally marketed it as a target gun before renaming it the "Woodsmaster" and marketing it to hunters.

I dunno about this. I would definitely try it out with some .35 Whelen ammo before buying it.
 
The 760 is a fine weapon. I bought a 30-06 carbine model made in 1960 here on the classifieds. I was amazed with the way it shot off the bench. It will shoot with any model 700 I own.
 
IS it the original Remington barrel with the 35 Remington stamp and the rechamber Whelen stamped also? I would think you'd have to change to a 30-06 magazine which aren't that hard to find.
