Remington 700

Bought one in 1985 been hunting with it ever since and love it, however yesterday evening I was scoping a buck deciding whether to shoot or not, I clicked safety off and boom!!! This morning I was ready to shoot a coyote but when I clicked safety off, boom!!! After getting home I clicked the safety off really hard about 25 times and it never fired. I need advice, friend says those guns are known for doing that but I have had the gun since 1985 with no problems.

I have a late 70- early 80s rem 700 bdl in 30-06. Loveit never had an issue with the trigger or an accidental fire. Gun is slick as glass action wise. But I always(once learning of the issue of accidental firing) in the back of my mind This year I bought a Rem700 trigger tech single stage trigger and installed it. Couldn't be happier now. I have owned this gun since early 90s never had a problem but this year I changed it. Just what I did, you pick your path REM will work with you. But that had to be some scary crap...Very glad no one was hurt or property damaged

Have you ever adjusted the trigger yourself. Ever had the stock off to clean it?

Did Remington help pay for your new trigger?

No I didn't check with Remington, but I think if you send it in they will replace the trigger with a new one as part of the overall 700 recall.

Plug your serial number into the Remington website and it will likely tell you that your trigger can be replaced by them for free.

I actually really like their newer X-mark trigger (which is what they will put in for you) and it is perfectly fine for a hunting rifle. I swapped a couple out for Timney's but stopped doing that on hunting rifles since the x-mark was so good.

Lift the bolt slightly and take the safety off, without a round in the chamber.

Sounds like the trigger adjustment has moved or parts have become worn over the years. Either readjust the trigger or replace it.

could have some gunk built up in it also,,,lighter fluid is a good trigger cleaner,,it might need tightening up a little also,,
