I've seen a couple of threads mentioning a demand for Remington 700 ML's. Is it just for use as a ML, or did I read they were being converted to smokeless powder???

Both. There is a bolt upgrade kit available from a member on Modern Muzzleloader board that cures the blowback issue that gums the factory bolt up. He also offers a bolt kit that is slighty longer to accomodate a savage breech plug if you are going to upgrade to a smokeless barrel.

Post that bad boy in the classifieds, it will sell if you price it right. If it's stainless it probably won't last the day.

Depending on shape of the inside of the barrel and inside of the bolt mechanism, they have been going for roughly $225-$300 around here anyway. You may be able to get a bit more on gunbroker, but you'll have to pay their fee. The last two stainless ones I bought were $225 and $240. The one for $225 was pitted badly and I shouldn't have given that for it. The $240 was spotless and I would have given $275. I personally would not pay over that, if you are patient you can find them cheap.
 
Thanks for the info. Mine was a good shooting rifle until about 5 years ago. It got to the point it wouldn't shoot less than a 6 in group. I tried everything I knew to try, and then sent it back to Remington. They said the crown on the barrel was messed up and re-crowned it. I have not shot it since I got it back. It is very clean and the bore is shiny. I'm going to think about selling it. I will stand behind it if I do sell it, and refund the money if it doesn't shoot a good group.
 
What kind of bullets were you shooting? I had issues grouping with powerbelts, but sabots that fit tight grouped very well in mine. I also think it shot better with loose powder and no. 11 caps.
 
The gun had shot well for years with a 260 gr Knight Jacketed hollow point and 90 gr of pyrodex. All of a sudden it went from a little less than 1.5 in groups at 100 yds to a 6-8 in group. Remington was very helpful trying to help me determine what changed. They said the barrel crown was damaged and re-crowned it.
