My dad has an 1100 and told me its not ejecting the shell so I told him to bring it to me. Sure nuff when you fire it doesn't even attempt to eject. Any ideas what the problem is? He dove hunts with it, cleans it, and puts it up until the next year. If it needs to visit a gunsmith is there a good one in the Mt. Juliet, Lebanon, Smyrna, or Murfreesboro areas? I go to Franklin every other week so I could take it to the Franklin Gun Shop too if they have a good gunsmith.

Thanks!

Are these what you're talking about? There's a picture just beneath this showing 3 rings and the word "piston". His only has 2 rings.

purchase O-ring, make sure slits on steel rings are opposite of each other, clean photo area you posted with steelwool and lite oil then wipe clean, make sure barrel chamber is clean, a dirty chamber will cause empties to stick, some Rem 1100/1187 will not eject some brands of light load shells

did you take the trigger assembly out?
no and not sure I'm qualified to do that. I took the forearm and barrel off and slipped the o-ring on and then replaced everything. The o-ring goes in the groove on the magazine tube right? When I first put it back together it wouldn't cycle the shell.

make sure you have the two metal rings positioned like in the pic you posted, slide the rubber O-ring on last, make sure slits in metal rings are opposite of each other

I alway clean the metal rings with 0000 steel wool

make sure nut cap is as tight as you can hand turn it

I did all of this except cleaning the rings with steel wool. Will get some and try it again.

there are two small holes inside the ring attached to the barrel, clean these holes also, a pipe cleaner soaked with gun cleaner should do the job
Will try this also and see what happens. May be this weekend but will post back what happens. Thanks Ray.

I'd be interested to see a picture of your piston/o-ring position. I'm guessing your misfire issue is from the gun not being closed up all the way. When installing the o-ring, leave it in the groove of the mag tube. Don't push it down against the piston (the two metal rings). Check the guide ring of the barrel for any obstructions also. Good luck!

The piston is a gas piston. There is a very small hole just behind the o-ring toward the receiver. Make sure the hole isn't clogged. It's a very straightforward design, and as mentioned, an identical trigger group and design in the 11-87, 1100 and Sportsman 12.

That's a great link BuckNrut. Appreciate it. I haven't touched it since the other day. Had baseball Tuesday and then yesterday went and picked my son's turkey up and didn't have time to mess with it. Will hopefully get it figured out by the weekend.

If I can't get it to fire and cycle the round I'll take a pic when I have it apart again. Everything looks correct but I could be missing something.

Maybe the action and trigger assembly need a good cleaning.... especially the bolt assembly..... could be caked up with crud and the firing pin isn't hitting hard enough to fire the primer off.

If you need help over the phone or want to take a road trip, I can help either way, just PM me.
