So I have this Remington 1100 20 gauge that my wife's uncle gave me last year. It is a 1978 model 1100 magnum full choke. My original plan for this gun was dove hunting and skeet shooting but since it will only cycle 3 inch shells and it is a full choke I figure I may just see how it patterns with turkey loads. It has a 28 in. barrel so it is not nearly as handy to carry as my 835 but I am still curious especially since it is a 20 gauge. I realize that each gun is different but which loads would you guys try in this gun? Given that it is a 78 model is heavy shot even an option for this gun?

The Federals sound like a good idea. Especially since I won't have worry about an extended choke tube stripping the wad.
 
I don't know why you couldn't shoot hevi 13 out of it..... I will bet its a better made gun than the any 1100 made in the last 10-15 yrs.... If I was gonna keep it I'd get barrel cut and threaded for tubes...
 
Since it's a fixed choke, the hard shot could damage the barrel. I shot steel through an 1100 with a fixed IC when I was a kid with no noticeable damage. It really comes down to how much the gun means to you.

I'll second Ren's flight control lead suggestion.

True, but I've been using a 12 gauge NEF with a fixed full since 08. A fixed full is not a handicap in my opinion even with lead.

My daughter has killed 3 with a full choke 20 gauge and 2 3/4 lead shells.

Killed these 2 on a fall hunt with a full choke and Hevi 7's out of my M2 20

If you're not worried about barrel damage, I would recommend Hevi 7's over the flight control lead. I don't think you'd see any damage from using the Hevi 7's, but again, it comes down to how much the gun means to you.
