Remember that .308?

Remember that .308 SPS Varmint that I had in the classifieds for so long? Nobody really wanted it; said it was a cheap gun, etc? I had put that Bell/Carlson Medalist stock on it, and let it sat. Well I decided to keep it and have been working with it here lately. I just have a $90 Tasco scope on it right now so that I can shoot it.

But have been playing with handloads. I think we found a combo it likes. The holes the caliper is covering is from setting the scope to center yesterday. 168 grain Match BTHP Hornady. 46.5 grains of Win. 760. 2.810 OAL. Still ain't been able to find any 168 grain Sierra Matchkings in stores; can order them but everywhere is like $14+ to ship.

5 shots today at 100. Now this ain't McMillian gun capability but I ain't the best rifle shot in the world either. I can't wait til I get some good optics on this gun! I'm glad I kept it now.

Someone much smarter than me uttered one of my favorite all time quotes. Said he spent $10,000 to find out you can`t outshoot a Remington 700. Not sure if I agree 100% but he no longer owns anything else, and he dang sure can afford it. Great work Crow Terminator. Glad you kept it too.

I use to site in guns in college to earn extra money. Carried home a plastic savage 270 with a cheap simmons scope on it. This gun felt like junk and was 3 kinds of crude and ugly. Shot about a .25" group back to back. That ugly gun could shoot for sure. Ammo was cheapo walmart federals.

Yep that "splatter" effect you see is from something else. On our target we have a sheet of thin OSB board bolted into a steel frame to get the target up off the ground. Dad put a big piece of card board over the OSB and held it up with a roofing nail, then taped the edges of the card board, so that I could center the scope by knowing exactly where the bullets were hitting vs the other bullet holes in the OSB. Well anyway when I was shooting for the group I was trying to aim at the smallest thing I could see on the target which was the roofing nail head. I ended up hitting that nail head and either it exploded or the bullet exploded when it hit it.

This Tasco I have on it is from a friend of mine. He was more worried about me not shooting the rifle than I was. Every time I'd see him he'd ask me if I had been shooting any and I always said I didn't have a scope for it yet. So he showed up at the house with his varmint scope...it's a Tasco 8-32 power that looks like he used the tube for a hammer one day. It's beat all to pieces. But he said "here put that on there so you can shoot that rifle". Like I say, I can't wait to put some good quality optics on this rifle. With a little more work and practice I will shrink that group.
