So what would be wrong with topping an AR style rifle with say a 3-9X40 conquest?

The only thing you need to do is get the right ring height or a riser setup. YOu will need to mount the scope a little higher than you normally would on a rifle.

Yep I found that the dnz mounts were the lowest I could go and still be comfortable

He's kidding. He has to be kidding.

Please be kidding.

Ruger it really depends on what you want to do with the gun.

informan jr,
I figure for "playing" and just spraying any red dot type sight would be fine, but for coyote hunting and / or deer, I ain't good enough to accurately shoot the rifle without a "conventional" scope.

It will more than likely be shot less than just about any other AR style rifle ever sold. LOL
Punch some paper and maybe shoot a yote every once in a while is the primary use.

Goodness I hope so,

But ruger, following Erics advice as long as you hold the rifle upside down and shoot backwards over your shoulder, you should be fine. Maybe you can fashion a mirror of some kind to look through your scope.

I had a R15 with Burris xtra high rings and 3.5-10 Leupold that really shot the 69 SMK and Varget well,,never had any problems with recoil related issues with any scope on my ARs,,

No one bang me on the head please. :smash: When AR's and the Ruger semi-auto in 223 hit the market people would load up the magazines and with a nice heavy riflescope pull the trigger at least 31 times in rapid succession, like Mr. Rambo. This behaviour caused scopes to fail. You still see a lot of scopes for the AR family that look like they belong on a 10/22.

So EK was pulling your leg but there is some truth that AR's and some scopes don't belong together.

I just put an SSALT mount from SWFA on mine with a Vortex with a 42MM objective. The height is perfect.
