has anyone ever killed a red squirrel? Do you have any pics? I have killed fox squirrels and gray squirrels and even seen black squirrels and seen one albino squirrel but no red ones?
 
Lots of red squirrels in the Cherokee National Forest in NE Tennessee. I have killed a couple to show friends they exist, but they are too small to bother cleaning, so I normally do not shoot them.
 
I have never hunted them but have seen them up in the higher elevation mtns of E. TN and a similar looking squirrel out in Wyoming. They seem to feed on pine, hemlock, and various other types of evergreens at the higher elevations. They sure do bark/chatter at you a lot. PH

When i was stationed in Michigan there was no closed season on them. But i found it hard to shoot critters i was not willing to clean. Tiny little buggers and mean too. I have seen a red beat a grey down and run them off on multiple occasions. Grey's and black squirrels filled the bag most of the time as there were not too many fox squirrels around in NW MI. But it seemed i always had the squirrel woods to myself not too many people up there hunted them for some reason.

If you ever end up around the Sleeping Bear National Park take a 22 or 17 and shoot them up.
