red dot for 10-22

Why not a 1-4 AR style scope with an illuminated reticle? That way you'd have a little zoom for longer shots.

The Burris FF3 are no doubt great red dots. I have one on my turkey gun and love it. Although bigger, but a much cheaper alternative is a Bushnell trs-25. My son killed 7 deer with one on a 30-30 and has one on his turkey gun.

I tried a red dot but had lots of trouble with my glasses. My contact-lens-wearing sons had no problem.

I'd druther get a 3x9x40 and have the kids install, adjust, & sight in for education/training.

teaches torx or allen use, torque, alignment, eye relief, MOA, FOV, PBR, probably some more.

Bushnell TR-25

I had one offset on my AR. IT stood up to the recoil of that so expect it would be ok for a 10-22.
