Recommendations On Scope For A Slug Gun

Well I've decided I'm going to give Shelby Forest a try this year so I'm putting a Slug Gun together. Got a rifled barrel for my Browning BPS 3 1/2" but, I haven't decided on a scope yet. I'm trying to stay up under $300. Some folks I know like the Nikon with the BDC reticle but I'd like to hear yall's opinion on that or any other scope.

Another question I have: Is a shotgun specific scope really necessary? I've got a burris 3x12 and I know thats way to much power but would it work on there? it's got pretty good eye relief.

Probably more important than "which scope" is how will you mount it. Those strap on mounts that bolt onto the receiver are not really the best option in my opinion.
I am not sure about the browning but I tried in vain to get a b-square scope mount to work on my Remington 870. The thing is nearly useless. The problem seems to be that the barrel really doesn't interlock with precision into the receiver. It seems tight but bench rest the gun and fire 5 shots. The shots will walk across the paper depending on how the assembly heats up. Let it cool, and the setup will start right back in the same place the first shot hit and across again.
I have had many guys tell me this is nonsense and their mount works fine but, so far, a trip to the range with their setups has proved them wrong.
If the strap-on is your only option let the gun rest before taking another shot at the range.
FYI - my shotguns (bolt action dedicated slug-guns) have Nikon Monarch 2-8x32. (Walyworld $280) The 32mm is not the greatest but on 2x the scope picks up plenty of light. I can't recall ever turning it up to 8. :) Since the longest shot I have ever taken with the thing is 100yds at the range the drop isn't a big deal to me. I have been shooting Lightfield's sabot and they seem to run out of gas much past 100 anyway.
As far as "will any scope work" I would think so. I assume the kick is your concern. I don't think my 12 ga has any more kick than my '06. (using 180g or more - I'm toning that down a bit this year with Hornady custom lite 125's) The kick is "different" but I don't think it is worse. Course I am shooting 2-1/2.
