Recommend me a new MZ

I am in need of a new MZ. The problems with the Traditions Vortek I've had for 9 years continue to stack up, and I am done with them.
The Remington UML looks interesting, but is HEAVY; 8.5lbs for just the base rifle.

Looking for accuracy, good quality, good customer support.
Recommendations?

They are nice, the cleaning issues is a big plus, but not legal in the states I go to now (UT and WY), or will want to go to (AK).

TC makes a good one. I have an Omega, but they quit making those. TC and Knight are the best out there IMO.

Knight rifles still carry a good reputation. CVA produces some nice inlines with their Accura and Optima lines. If I was going to buy something new and didn't want to go smokeless, I'd be looking at a Knight, 1:20 twist .45 caliber.

I see a lot more rifles going .45.
What is the advantage over .50, other than fps?

I have experience with a few muzzies, but my CVA Optima V2 is freaky accurate. I found the trick is getting the right amount of fouling along with a consistent bullet seating.

A fast twist .45 will stabilize the longer, heavier .40 caliber saboted bullets well. They tend to have better BC and SD numbers than their similar weight .45 caliber counterparts. That can mean better trajectory and penetration performance. If you prefer to go sabotless and shoot full bore .45 caliber bullets, there's a ton of choices. All you need is a press and sizing die to tweak the bullet to bore fit. A fast twist rate 45 will also handle the long, heavy 45 caliber lead conicals well, if you prefer to go that route. It's a pretty versatile caliber.

Since you mentioned the Rem UML, the Knight Ultra Lite in 45cal 1-20 can be found in that price range if you shop around. They are very nicely made with a Timney trigger and a Green Mountain barrel. Nice B&C stock too.

Nephew got a CVA Accura and dang if I don't think I like them better!! Sucker is a shooter for sure.
Chris gave a great explanation on 45 vs 50 cal.....unless you order everything 45 cal supplies are hard to come by in my area were 50 cal is readily available.

Guess you never heard of shooting them sabotless then. You would use the same 45cal bullets 50cal owners use in sabots. All you need is a sizing die unless you get lucky and the bullet fits as sized. 110gr of BH209 with a 275gr bullet sabotless clocks right around 2100fps. Pretty easy to get bulk packs of 45cal conicals too but yes you would need to order them. Both Bullshop and NoExcuses carry several weights and sized to order. You would be amazed how well even a light 350gr 45cal conical at 1300-1400fps MV puts down a deer. Only takes about 75gr of powder to get there too so recoil is not bad.

Im pretty happy with the one i built from a Knight 45 1-20 barrel kit and parts i already had.

I'm partial to my Encore but I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Knight.
I know the Wolverine 209 is compatible with BH209. CVA has a big following. I'm not wild about them as they just feel cheap. I have one for my wife to use and it is a good shooting gun.

Not really. BH209 is made for sealed breech MLs. Not plunger guns. You run the risk of the FPJ being blown off the plug. Ive seen it happen first hand.

Another rifle they have on sale is the Vision. Its safe to use with BH209 but i would get the bare primer plug. FPJs leak too much. Not SS but it is nitride treated 4140.

You may want to consider the ASG LRMP module conversion. Its far superior to the cases Rem uses in the UML and it will be BH209 compatible after converting it. This system has been tested with rather huge loads of BH209 and its excellent.
