Recommend a Youth Model

I need to get my 6.5 year old a rifle. We have been shooting a .22 all summer and he is begging me to take him deer hunting this fall. I haven't had a chance to get out and really look at anything. Stopped at BPS today and they didn't have a thing. Who makes a good single shot youth model?

H&R makes a fine youth model. I have hunted with an adult handi for the last 4 years and I love mine.

Many on here will have more expert advice than me..........BUT...
With youth model guns most will outgrow them and they get relegated to the "memory" shelf and never used again. I started my son out with squirrel hunting with a .410 single shot shotgun. It was easy on his shoulder and he became used to it. We used .410 slugs in it for deer season (open sites) since I knew he had to limit shots to close range anyway and he already developed good sighting with squirrel hunting. (.410 has to be aimed more than pointed) He is grown now and uses a 30-06 but still has the .410 for occasional squirrel hunts and still gets use from it. At around 9-10 years old he went to 30-30 handloaded "light loads" (by a friend of mine), then 30-30 factory loads around 11-12, then went to 30-06 around 16. He never used a "youth model" and still uses the .410, 30-30 and 30-06. May not be the best method but it worked well for us.

Humm was at BPS last night saw a few youth models around,some on the floor close out rack and behind the counter,didn't pay any attention if the single shots were rifles or shotguns.

As for a rifle the Rossi "Triple Threat" might be in order.

This in 223 with 60 grain Nosler Partitions. Lay it on a good rest because its heavy and it wont recoil much at all.

If nothing changes I'm going to let my son shoot my encore with a .243 barrel I bought for it a year or two ago. He's only 5 now so in the next year or so when he gets a little bigger I'm going to try it out before buying something else. Heck my 30-06 hasn't seen daylight except when I open the safe to get the encore. I love the fit of it and watching the bullet hit its mark.
