Real fish/replica mounts?

From the prices I've reviewed, generally replica's are more expensive. But that might not always be the case?

In my case (catfish), you can only do replicas. Taxidermists can't mount a real catfish.

Nice way to hide your gut there Richard. :D :D

Skin mount looks a lot better when done correctly to me. Replica cost more... At least the ones I have looked at.

With that said, I would prefer a replica if possible. The only 2 I have mounted both were killed by swallowing the hook.

I have a 8 1/2 largemouth and a 6 1/2 smallmouth mounted. Don't know if I'll ever do another one. I've caught bigger largemouth and was waiting on a 10 or better to mount when this one swallowed a Texas rig. My buddy mounted it for $125 dollars a couple years ago so I couldn't complain. As long as you keep the dust blown off them they will last a long time. A little clear coat brings them back out from what I've seen.

not sure if/when I will want to get one mounted, but I'd definitely do the skin mount. To me it would take away the value if the actual fish I caught was not mounted. a replica looks like it and reminds you of it, but I would want my actual fish on the wall just like the real antlers and tail fans that hang on my wall.

Replica all the way. Today's replicas look fantastic and last much much longer. I would hate it if I killed a trophy.

that "trophy" fish, being as big as it is, is probably near the end of its lifecycle anyway. a good skin mount will outlast most people's lifetime.
