RE: Handgun Advice

Didn't want to hijack Shane's thread, but was wondering about the Ruger's out there. Have they dropped off in reliability in recent years or what? I own a few of the P series and I love'em. They are a little bulky for some, but I have a good sized hand and they feel okay to me, and I have to say, very reliable to boot. Just wondering why no one was mentioning them anymore.

They seem to have a good record, I just never liked them personally. They just feel cheap to me, I don't know why.

The quality is still there. Ruger revolvers are what they have always been. Big and heavy solid revolvers. The new lcr is totally different and it seems to be holding up well. Everything is going smaller and lighter.

Im a huge Glock fan, but for some reason I bought an SR9 not long after they came out and just after the recall. Its been perfect for a couple thousands rounds now and is a wonderfull carry gun. I actually like it alot better than the P series 9mm's Ive had in the past

If theres anything out there better than a glock, sig, or h&jk I sure aint ever heard of it and i have close friends that are professional fire arm instructors, SWAT members etc, they stress test guns for a living and say the glock will take more punishment than any pistol out and still perform with precision!

x2 on the Glock statement. To each his own, but when the chips are down I am going with the one that takes beatin' and keeps on repeatin'.

I would take 1911 in a heartbeat b4 a Glock. Hitting what I am shooting at is also very important, and I havent seen a Glock that can hang with a 1911 or Sig for that matter in the accuracy department. That Caspian is a fine looking pistol, congrats. Also if you ask most any member of any sort of elite military force, most want or have a 1911 in 45.

i have owned several sigs, glocks, and h&k's and the glock was every bit as accurate as the others, 1911's are nice but aint no way they can take the beating and still function like a glock, at least thats what the professional instructors, swat team members and captains, say!!

I like the 1911s as well, I have 2 Kimbers, and an 80 series gold cup. They are very accurate, I would still carry the Glock.

The Glock holds more rounds, I don't know about you, but when I carry I only have the one magazine for concealment purposes. My Glocks will shoot will my 1911s out to 35 yards or so. That's plenty good for me. If I want to shoot targets at 50-75 yards I shoot the 1911s.

As far as getting them dirty and them still work, drop a 1911 in a mud puddle and see how long it takes you to get it to feed right. You will be there a while. The 1911s of today are made to such a tight tolerance(good for accuracy) that a little grit and grime and you're done 'till you clean it completely.

yep, tolerances are too tight on the newer 1911's one little hiccup and you've got a big problem!

1st off, I dont intend to drop any of my guns into mud puddles, but I am sure that there were a few of them that got wet/muddy/sandy in all of the wars that the 1911 fought in, and still managed to work. Its very easy to conceal an extra single stack mag in a pocket, so problem solved. I also am of the opinion that 8+1 of 45 ACP is plenty of firepower to protect yourself, if I need more than that I dont need a handgun to defend myself, I need a long gun of some sort and a few buddies to help me out. Its a heck of alot easier to conceal a nice slim 1911 in 45 than it is to conceal a blocky double stack Glock. Its also very important to me to have a gun that shoots where I point it...a Glock shoots about a foot high for me(at 10 yards, who knows how high at long range) when instictively point shooting, its the only handgun I have ever fired that I have that problem with, so personally for me I have no use for the ugly bastids.

They are ugly Kimberman, and no offense is intended, everybody is different. My Glocks hit point of aim for me, I've always considered them very accurate. I'm not forcing my opinion on anyone, I was just answering the question as best I could.

The only other thing I have to say is: Nobody intends to drop a sidearm in a mudpuddle, or drop it period, but in that situation strange things happen. I would just rather not have to worry about the what-ifs. I do however see your point, if you can't shoot it accurately it does you no good. Of course if it won't fire, it does you less good.

Who knows.

I'll take my H&K P2000SK for my battle pistol. My Glock will be my backup with the XD45. Perfect size for easy carrying concealed. All of them will handle the what if's.
