RCBS hand priming tool question/issue

Yesterday I had a first for me when reloading. I opened a brand new box of Norma 7mm/08 brass. Took my hand priming tool from the shelf and noticed a pin had fallen out that holds the squeeze handle to the base. Put the pin back in and then loaded the tool with federal 210m primers. Primed the first case and noticed that the tool over seated/dimpled/creased the primer. Figured it was fluke so I primed a second case and it did the same thing. I took the tool apart and double checked everything and even steel wooled the plunger to make sure I didn't have any build up on the face of the seater. Changed the shell holder out and tried again with the same results. Got a different manufacturer/caliper case and tried that , same results. I am completely baffled on what caused the issue. I last used the tool on the exact same set up with no issues. Only thing that's changed was the pin issue and it seemed like a pretty simple fix. Anyone else had this type of issue with hand priming tool. Thanks in advance.

On mine I have to check before starting each session to make sure the guide rod is seated correctly under the seating pin. There's a little cup at the end of the drive rod and it has to seat over the rounded end of the seating pin. Did the drive rod fall out as well and you could have put it back in upside down, or maybe it's caught on the edge of the seating pin and not fully seated?

Also check to see that the seating pin is flat side up. Other than that I don't know.

The drive pin was taking out and cleaned. It's an older hand tool the pin it's has small hole that it seats in with " spring stop" at the bottom of it so it only fits one way. I'm stumped

Still the same size primer/pocket too?

Yes sir . The only thing that's changed was the pin issue. I put it right back in before I disassembled the whole thing.

I guess I'd measure the depth of the primer pockets of the new brass vs the other brass just to see if there was a difference?

Could the direction the pin goes in have made a difference possibly?

I would contact RCBS customer service. I recently had an issue with my older Chargemaster and was impressed with how they handled it.

I thought that as well like it may be chafered to one side verses the other. Flip it around and same result. I had to break out the Lee hand primer so I'd quit ruining primers lol

I guess if I cant find a solution a call to RCBS is in order and see what happens

As others have stated, The plunger has a concave end and a flat end. The flat end is what pushes the primer. Double check.

Refer to the below drawing. #7 lower end has a half moon shape the fits in the same shape in #2, the handle assy.
#7 upper end has a ball that sits in the end of #4, the pushrod.

If either of these are not in their respective seated positions, an overstroke situation will happen and the primer will be overinserted.

Not sure how your pin came out as it has a circlip on it.

I feel like an idiot . Ive been calling it a RCBS priming tool. Everything we use is rcbs. But the priming tool we use for some reason is a Hornady model.

I just squeeze until I feel the primer hit the bottom of the pocket and stop.

Does it happen to have a seating depth adjustment? Mine does, but it is not Hornady.

I use a hornady hand primer.

Does it happen to have a seating depth adjustment? Mine does, but it is not Hornady.

My hornady does not. Only adjustment really is by feel when squeezing the handle.
