They were supposedly better when they first came out, but once exploded in popularity Rage cheaped out on materials and now they malfunction a lot more.

What do they teach you in hunter safety about a gun safety - it's a mechanical device that can fail. Same with a mechanical broadhead. It serves a great purpose but moving parts can break a lot more easily than a fixed head. Plus I like to get more penetration... If I were to stop using thunderheads, I'd probably go with a 2 blade Magnus Stinger.

I'm not spending $10 more for 3 broadheads that are known to fail infinitely more often than the broadheads that I use now.

Catman, you've never used rage before yet you're quoting hearsay. I've been using rage bhs since 2007. This is my eighth season using them. I have never had one fail me and the only arrow that didn't pass through was a high shoulder shot. I've broken the leg before on a shot. To say they fail without using them is pointless. Yes, I've heard some guys that used them say they failed but for everyone one of those guys, 10 more have experienced no failures. Use them before you knock them.

One thing to note, you use thunderheads. I've used thunderheads. Wait until you hit a deer perfect and can't find it because the small cut gets clogged with hair and leaves no blood trail. That is a sickening feeling. I've had it happened. Fortunately we found the deer the next morning.

They're cheaply made and priced high therefore they are expensive.

I agree with this. They will kill a deer with a good shot and do so very efficiently, but so will a cheaper alternative.

The blades on Rage are thinner but IMO that is a good thing. I really don't care if I can only get one deer with it as long its what I'm after ;) I will gladly go buy another pack of em as long as the deer keep hitting the ground.


I always pick mine up after season for $25 a pack anyway. So thats not to bad.

I like them, but I can tell you, on solid bone, they are not ideal, seen that failure. IN the lungs, heart...........cant be beat!!!! Rage heads are expensive, talk is cheap, pictures are worth 39 bucks. :crazy:

I lost a really nice buck that I hit perfect right behind the with rage and I also shot a yearling doe that ran 100 yards bleeding very little, I hit her perfect too...I've killed 5 deer with the swhacker's so far and none of them made it past 50 yards and the blood trails were massive.

If you hit vitals, heart,lungs etc......Rage will get it done.

If you hit any bone with a rage the blades are ruined. I shot through both shoulder blades on a mature doe with a swhacker and it stuck in the dirt behind her, then I killed two more deer with the same broadhead.

I will say you do have to make sure that the last thing you do before settling in is make sure the blades are clicked in the o-ring. I think this is why people have them open early or only one side is clicked in and then you don't get a full pass through.

I have always had the same results as Boone 58����. Massive wound cavities!

I am just saying what I hear from a lot of people, not from my own experience. Because of what I've heard, I won't use rage heads

doubt it was a perfect hit. Deer would of die from a field point with perfect hit. Probably was higher than you thought and hit below spine and over lungs.

Well I found the doe so i know it was a good shot, I'm not sure why there wasn't much of a blood trail, I had a complete pass thru. I watched my arrow bury up behind the bucks shoulder about halfway so I guess I guess I hit his opposite shoulder. If I would have been using a swhacker that shoulder wouldn't have been a problem

The one year that I hunted with a Rage, I did kill a doe and to be honest she fell within 30yrds from where I shot her. Now with that said: I got sick and tired of every time I got into my stand there were at least two out of four heads with the blades dangling around, it was time to make a change.
I can't hunt with a broadhead that the blades won't stay in so I did make a switch to Swhacker.
So far I've killed one buck with the Swhacker, no blades opening in the quiver...

But that's true with any broadhead lol. Even the cheap Wal-Mart ones, never used rage. I use wasp jackhammers and don't see any reason to switch they get the job done. But my dad used rage last year,he killed two with them. One bad blood trail and broadhead ended up in pieces. Not a bad shot eighter other, did it's job well. But he was not to pleased with them because he went back to grim reapers.

Just stating the facts about what they do well, no revelation, they cut well thru soft tissue, but lack bone breaking penetration like Muzzy's.
