Just an observation on my part but it seems that most of the buck pics I've seen so far this year, both dead and alive, don't have a lot of mass. Is this just me?
 
The bucks on my place never put on much mass. The older bucks can grow big racks and tines but they are always lacking in the mass department, prime example is this buck here. I followed this buck his whole life and he was 6.5 years old when he was killed last year.

Mike: idk if mass has much if anything to do with nutrition. I think it could affect how much more antler they put on but unless it's really a poor year, they will grow almost the same rack. I've gotten some pics of heavy horned bucks and thin horned bucks this fall. I think it's just genetics mostly and age certainly helps.
