Rabbits and Something a Little Different

Anyone ever left the dogs at home when it snowed and went tracking rabbits? I haven't in years but it was a lot of fun when I did. 6-8 inches of snow is perfect. Follow their tracks round and round until they straighten out. Once they do they aren't far from bedding down. They'll make 1 last jump as far as they can and burrow under the snow. Look for the yellow snow and they'll be laying directly underneath it. Reach in and pick them up. They can't run away because they can't get any traction in snow that deep. It's totally unfair so I just catch them, turn them lose, and go find another. Sometimes it'll really put your tracking skills to the test. Find a cottontield where a dozen rabbits have hopped around all night crossing and crisscrossing each other's trails and try to straighten out an individual's trail. It can be tough.

The last time I went I caught 14 rabbits in about 3 hours.

I never have, dogs running on the snow usually makes for a good day lol. A man could certainly track them that way though!

I have never caught one but I love jump shooting in the snow. I cant wait for a good snow to track some bunnies!!
