I was wanting to ask has twra ever considered allowing hunters to just purchase or opt for a priority point for the quota hunts? Wouldn't that be easier on you since so many apply for PI or put in for single hunts knowingly not to get a draw but do it just to get a point?

Not TWRA and this is just speculation but: I think the whole idea behind no longer refunding quota hunt appication fees was two fold. 1.To cut down on TWRA admisnistrative fees and 2. Two to generate income by not refunding application fees. If my thoughts on item 2 are correct then then TWRA could loose income by selling priority points.

To answer your question. No, we haven't considered allowing hunters to just purchase a priority point. No, it wouldn't be easier on me. Mixed priority parties don't add anything to my work load. I'm happy that there is an option for those who want to obtain a point and not be drawn.

A lot of factors went into the decision to shift from the $20 refundable, to the $10 non-refundable fee. The revenue generated is almost the same, it fact, it's probably a little less, since those who are drawn would have paid $20 in the past and are now only paying $10. But when you consider other factors, for instance the cost to go through the process to actually generate each check, it balances out.
