I shot my V2 with Blackhorn and the original breech plug for a couple of years without any issues and then bought the Blackhorn breech plug. I shoot 80 grains of Blackhorn under a 300gr Barnes MZ Expander in my V2. I tried 100 grains and didn't get the accuracy that I do from 80. Add to this the fact that Blackhorn is a hotter powder than Pyrodex or others and the recommended load is lower than the others SO, that probably puts me near equal to 100 grains of the other stuff.

This is from the Blackhorn 209 website concerning primer recommendations:

Blackhorn 209 is designed to work with standard 209 shotshell primers. For the best results, we recommend the following brands:

  • CCI 209M
  • Federal 209A
We DO NOT recommend any of the 209 primers designated for muzzleloaders (Winchester Triple 7, CCI MZL, Federal Fusion, or Remington Kleanbore). These primers are all weaker than standard shotshell 209 primers and do not provide adequate ignition for Blackhorn 209 – especially when used in a poorly designed breech plug system. We also DO NOT recommend #11 percussion caps or musket caps.

BTW I've been using Blackhorn 209 in my CVA Wolf for years. I purchased the 209 breech plug. I use 90 grains of Blackhorn powder and Barnes TEZ bullet/sabot. Excellent accuracy and performance on deer. I often use my muzzleloader through rifle season. Good luck sir.
 
Another primer that works very well in the CVA plugs is the NSI (Nobel) 209/686 or 688 209 primer. They are as long as a Win209 but a little fatter and fit the CVA plug better. IMO the big issue with the CVA plugs is not so much the need for a mag primer and it is the need to make the primer seal well. The Fed209A is longer than the CCI209M so if you want a mag primer use those. The NSI 209/688 is their version of a mag primer but not quite as hot.

Go to McMasters and get a bag of orings. Place the oring in the primer pocket in the plug. That will seal the primer for around 20 shots per oring.

CCI 209 magnum primers is what Blackhorn rep told me once. Only place I could ever find the magnum was at Gander Mountain when they were in business. For whatever reason they kept them in the back and you had to ask for them.
