Quick land-owner exemption question

Looking at the TWRA website land-owner licensing exemption, I just want to make sure I am seeing this correctly. Only TN residents are exempted from having to buy a license to hunt their own farms?

I am moving 10 minutes away from the family TN farm and will be hunting it a lot this year. However, I am living 10 minutes away IN Kentucky.

Am I going to be stuck having to purchase the $251 non-resident license to hunt only my own ground?

The landowner license exemption is for TN residents only, so as a KY resident it won't be available to you. As suggested, the lifetime license purchased while you are still a TN resident will cover you no matter where you live.

I was in the same situation, moved to AL bought my lifetime ahead of time...will pay for itself in 6 years. If your moving buy it now!

I dont see you ever getting checked for a hunting license if you never leave your own farm! Some laws/rules are just ridiculous!

That may be true, Scott, but there are some issues beyond a simple citation in this scenario. If he comes to TN and kills a deer without the proper license and hauls it back into KY, then he is in violation of the federal Lacy Act as well. We are currently helping the USFWS in a couple of of investigations where the lack of a legal license was the underlying violation.

It is sometimes suprising how pictures, etc. filter down to document such violations.

Could a person get by with it? Undoubedly. It happens every year. But, if caught, it could be a costly situation to deal with.

When I bought our property I bought a lifetime license in case I ever moved so I'd always be able to come back and hunt. Even though I haven't moved it was a good deal to buy it and supports a good cause - the TWRA.

I'm very glad I bought mine nearly 10 yrs ago before the price jumped. 3 months ago we moved to Indiana. I will be making a road trip or two each year just to hunt with friends in Tn just in case I get tired of these scrub Hoosier deer.

This also begs the question...are you a sportsman or woman following the rules and trusting in your wildlife authority or are you a breaker of rules when it doesn't go your way. Do the right thing and you won't need to be looking over your shoulder.
