How has rattling been working for y'all lately?

How long do you rattle? How long before you start rattling again?

What time of day is best? Does it matter?

Most hunters don't rattle this late in the season but I still carry mine. Last year had 2 bucks really going at it this late in a grass field below me and the year before another 2 were wearing it out just over a ridge from me with only 2 days left in the season. Less than a week ago we rattled up a pretty good buck and later had another show up looking. You never can tell...

1 time in 20 years on a mature buck. Lol

Usually sparks the interest of a few younger bucks if they are around. I have had much better luck hitting the grunt call once or twice every 30-45 mins

Never worked with a mature buck. Little skippers though love it. I rattled in the dark on the way to the stand. Little bucks come cruising in for 2 hours after daylight looking...will walk right up to my tree. They can pinpoint it. 2 min sequence, but maybe I'm doing it wrong

If I had to use only 1 word to define rattling it would be attitude. I haven't rattled in any monster bucks (that I know of) but I have had 4.5 year old 125"-130" class bucks respond. Usually young bucks freeze and then either slink off or run for their lives but I have had some of them come in like they were king of the woods willing to take on all comers. Those deer really have attitudes.

I've had some success rattling and snort wheezing at same time and other times nothing. I'd say there's a time and place for it. Never hurts to try! Good luck.

I hardly ever do much "blind" rattling but rather rattle to bucks that I need closer. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. Rattles several a lot closer in the past couple years but have not rattled a decent buck in this year.

I have had good luck with it. Most people IMO "scare deer off by doing it to aggressively. You will bring in more and bigger deer with light rattling FWIW all season long. Its sure not going to scare deer unless your crashing large antlers loudly.

New to the whole grunt, bleat, rattle stuff. I normally just sit quietly in the stand but thought about trying some stuff this year after going many times and seeing nothing.

I am no expert by no means but I have been rattling for over 25 years. There are certain rules that will help bump up your chances in rattling in a shooter buck. I rattle opening day to closing day. I have had 150 class bucks come in opening week until December so I rattle every time I go every 45 min. I start like two small bucks sparring , although I have had some get by me that I rattled aggressive to get them to return. No its not a thing that will guarantee you a shooter every time you go but instead of hunting just what I can see now I am hunting as far as the deer can hear. I rattle in 12 or more bucks every year some years more, plus I rattle in as many does. It sure is better than just sitting there waiting like a knot on a log. This year if I had chose to I could have killed out the first week all bucks I rattled in so it does work and yea if they can see you well you will be busted. A few rules I try not to break are the 45 min. rule , high on the ridge, rattle easy , rattle 10 sec to 15 sec, shorter is better and for the unbelievers I have rattled with does and small bucks under my stand without spooking them so if done right it will not scare the deer. So if I can up my chances by as much as 10% and not spook the deer then I am all in .
