Interesting question. The true facts about the buck harvest is: A - most deer hunters really don't kill 2 much less 3 a season. B- opening weekend (gun) generally sees a higher number of younger bucks taken simply because its opening weekend and well its a traditional thing and if you don't understand that then there is not enough time to explain it, so the numbers of hunters that are in the woods at a given time is pretty much at its peak. And C - thanksgiving weekend sees a high harvest number simply because most places are closed therefor letting their employees off which in return gives the working hunter more time in the woods resulting in simply the same result as B. Calling someone a weekend warrior simply because the priority to support ones family is a higher priority than hunting is well like downing kids for having a couple days just for them, I'll refrain from any further remarks. The numbers may be down this year, but I will find it hard to believe that the non data to support but politically motivated limit reduction is the cause instead of the mast crop (acorns) being bad and the unusual weather.
It still amazes me that with all the data/information their is and has been available for many years that the belief of simply reducing the number of bucks allowed to be taken is going to produce a road to the promised land.
One more thought, be careful for what you ask for, the commercialization of a natural resource has never ended good.

To some that may read this, don't let the commercialization, ones that measure a bucks worth with a tape measure or politics influence the way you enjoy hunting, Take what you want because IT'S what makes you happy. And remember the ones that "let em walk" are usually not seeing anything anyway. Be proud of being a hunter and that success is not measured in inches.
