Hardly ever watch outdoor programs so I've not seenit before and I've kinda been out of the loop in recent years on tournament fishing. So here is what has me stumped.

Had some tournament on a little while ago and Kevin Van Dam was fishing. Now I know he runs a big deep breather of boat and motor. But in the edge of the picture, I saw what looked like the handle/throttle of a an outboard sticking up. You know what I mean, the handle on 5 hp in the up position but it appeared to be attached to his 560 horse motor.

What is that?

I had a similar setup BW but I used my smaller motor mostly for trolling. It's not attached to the main motor it's attached to the side on a motor plate or motor board. I use mine when I'm fishing walleye in the Detroit River near where it empties into Lake Erie many times...or when we hand line walleye

Yep, I know trolling isn't allowed, lol...so, I have no idea what he would be using it for...I'm heading out here in an hour or so to Fletcher's Floodwaters in the Alpena area of MI for a bass "hawg" tourney so I'll ask someone there...

BW, the only thing I can think of is that it's his emergency motor to get him back in to the dock if his main motor fails. All bass tourneys have time limits, as you know of course, so maybe this is his way of assuring he makes it back for the weigh in...

I believe it is the power pole. I never heard of one but that sure looks like what i saw.

I appreciate outdoor writers who stay up on all the latest and greatest gadgets. Power Poles have only been around for NINE YEARS!

Hey BW... keep your eye out for these little black things you can hold in the palm of your hand and talk to people with. They're called cell phones.

You see, Richard, unlike some media prostitutes, I don't do product reviews :) unless they send me one. However I do have a cell phone somewhere...it is just too large to carry.

BTW- I assume you heard about Soc? Serves the old fart right for giving me so much grief about my scooter wreck. Bet it takes him longer to heal than it did me.

Got no idea how that happened? I think Ruger is messing with us. Hey Simms you got any really good pictures of clients with fish besides cat perch? I'm about to start my fall deer series but need a "variety" picture. Until I am healthy enough to get back out there, I don't have any fresh ones.

Bet I can scrape something up... what species you want?

Doesn't matter just as long it isn't a catfish, done too many catfish lately and prefereably a TN fisherman. I'll use it as sidebar deal and credit you. Sure appreciate it.

My brother is on a first name basis with Van Dam, it is a power pole. Some of the pros have 2 on back of their boats. Sweet way for anchoring in shallow water. My brother does not care for them just because it makes working on the motors harder.

Never mind, I see it does. Thanks. I need caption info for the kid with big smallmouth in the orange shirt and two guys with good bream stringer. Might need more later. Thanks again.
