Question for the AR experts

My friend just took a gun in on trade. It's a 1992 year AR. On the side it says....Colt. Sporter Match H Bar. .223

It has a scope on the rail as well.

He said the guy said he has had it since new and hasn't shot 200 rounds through. Thing looks new.

What's it worth?

I have a few pics but me and Apple and photobucket are playing well together.

The used AR market is soft right now. What kind of scope is it? Without pictures I would say it is a Colt 6601 w/ threaded flash hider but no bayonet lug. The lower should have a block in it.

It is a preban but that only holds interest in ban states. Locally, prebans dont mean much anymore. If it is in excellent condition, and he wants to sale it, I would price it at 1000.00 but be prepared to come down. Sale it on Arfcom or some other sight and you may get more for it to someone in a ban state, than locally.

Better check the serial number against Colt's records to be sure of the manufacture date and before selling it as a pre-ban. Don't just take the seller's word for it. If it gets shipped to occupied territory and turns out not to be, it will be a mess and could possibly get cofiscated.

A preban match H-Bar could fetch upwards of $1500 to the right collector in the right state. In it's day that was the best AR money could buy. There are many better choices today but like some 1911's and and Pythons there is a cult following for the H-Bars.
