Do you catch cats on chicken breast throughout the winter too? Never got a winter cat myself and this year I have to make it happen just once. Debating whether to catch and freeze some baitfish, or just get chicken.
 
Yes, chicken breast works (for me) anytime. But expect your wintertime bite to be SLOW! Take your patience pills... although many say your odds of catching BIG fish in winter is actually better. Just be prepared to pay your dues.

If you can get skipjack to freeze... do it. It's better to have it not need it than than need it and not have it. No doubt natural cut bait is great. But I have complete faith in chicken breast as well, and it's ALWAYS available.

Just like using lures to bass fish... a LOT of it comes down to having confidence in your bait/lure. If you've got confidence, you'll fish harder and better... and it will pay off.

Thank you sir... helps me a lot. If I fish Old Hickory it will be below the dam and most likely from the bank. But I would also just like to sit out by the harpeth river and drop a line into one of the deeper channels or pools and wait a while for a bite. Slow bites don't bother me much... I've fished at night for 3-4 hours and only come up with one or two carp before. Not knowing if and when a fish will hit is what keeps me there, waiting longer. I love bottom fishing...

Do you use regular plain chicken breast, or do you Dr. it up with a secret formula?

Have you tried cheaper stuff like chicken thighs?

Plain chicken breast straight out of package... doctoring never made any difference IMHO.

Thighs will work... but I always like to buy boneless. By breast or thighs on the bone, and by the time you trim or debone, there is so much waste it really doesn't save much money, and not worth the hassle.

innards heck yeah... can't beat a bird liver for catfish, caught em on hearts too and maybe gizzards. I hooked and lost a catfish on a piece of the liver from my first wild turkey, I was a bit disappointed.
