Question for Chattanooga area hunters

If you had the means to purchase 200 - 300 acres of land for recreation and hunting within 90 minutes of Chattanooga, which counties or areas would you focus your land search on?

Yep. Best bang for your buck, rural, and a strong population. But, as in any rural area, if you are not on that property regularly, plenty of "country boys" will try to claim it as theirs and trespass on it like crazy.

I don't know anything about that part of Tennessee, but I'm kind of surprised to see you guys saying to look North towards Meigs and Rhea. I expected to see people saying to look West / Northwest in Franklin, Marion, Grundy or Sequatchie. What would keep you from strongly considering those counties?

My reason for saying Meigs is the high deer population. Since 2000, between my brother and I, we've killed 50 or 60 deer off my place. It's 16 acres. Have seen many hundreds of deer through the years. Meigs is as good as it gets in Unit A in my opinion.

I haven't looked lately but Meigs county was, and probably still is, one of the top three deer harvest counties in the ENTIRE state.

the harvest numbers in meigs county took a dive when bowater quit selling permits and we lost all that public land.

I live in Chattanooga area. I hunt in Chattanooga area. But I own property in Franklin County. Near Coffee County.

Unit L is the place for me. Liberal doe limits. 3 per day the entire year.

Good deer numbers.

Good bucks to hunt if you want to spend the time.

I agree with 102. I'm from chattanooga 2. U can be in Franklin/Lincoln county area in 1.5hrs. That's where I would be buying land at

I live in Rhea and there are a lot of deer around and a good number of nice bucks. As someone else stated, if you are not going to live there find someone to watch your property or else the good ol' boys will try and claim it.
