My questions is? What can I do now in middle of season and rut near? Have thick areas with huge oak ridge over looking two bottoms. Old property looks no hunting been done in few years. How should I begin my hunting. very little pressure or go scout a little? Super excited never had my own place it is only 13.5 acres but joins thousands. sign contract tomorrow any help thanks again note I have walked borders seen a lot of scrapes.
 
On a tract like that, you might be able to hang 2 or 3 stands (for different winds) and cover quite alot of it. Just get in there and sit; you'll learn pretty quickly how they move.

You probably need to know more about your neighbor's land than your own. What is on your neighbors land in the way of food and cover? Will they be crossing your property to get to your neighbor's corn field or to a clear cut? Also, What is missing in the area that your property has to draw deer?
 
My 32 acre lease is surrounded on 3 sides by considerable no-hunting-allowed land and has not been hunted since at least 1997. Deer in groups of 10 to 17 cross the lease to the farmland using two travel corridors. The odd 1->4 deer are found elsewhere around the property. However, those 'elsewhere' places are consistent-you can nearly always find deer in those places.

So, as many have said, wait till the wind is in your favor and enter very carefully. You need to scout mostly by just sitting and watching. I'd keep a round in the chamber because boring can become exciting in a very short time.
