Question about Triple Seven Pellets...

I am shooting a Knight MK85 with the magnum rifle primer conversion kit. Wanting to try the Triple Seven Pellets because they are supposed to be a whole lot less mess than Pyrodex. Here is the question...do yall think the magnum rifle primer will be hot enough to properly burn the triple seven pellets or should i just stay with the pyrodex???????? Just picked up some 300 grain Barnes Expanders to try too.

I tried several types of primers and could never solve the crud ring problem for either of my MZs. I gave up and went back to pyrodex. Good luck!

The magnum rifle primer will be more than enough heat for the 777 pellets. Actually, you should look at the primers specifically for muzzleloaders. They aren't as hot and won't bump your charge before complete ignition resulting in accuracy issues. If you are shooting Blackhorn 209, you'll need a realy hot primer like Federal 209A or CCI Magnums. The Federal 209A primers is what I use for the BH209 and when I fire a couple of primers to foul the barrel, it sound like a .22.

Stayed with 100 grain pyrodex pellets and shot the 300 grain Barnes Expanders today. The Barnes bullets were tight in the barrell but shot extremely well. I am very satisified with this set up.

A very hard residue that adheres to bore approx 1/2" out from powder charge that prevents next sabot from seating on next powder charge without using excessive force on ramrod and damaging the plastic cup on sabot. Dangerous to fire MZ unless bullet is fully seated on powder charge. Removal of crud ring requires a minimum of one "really wet" patch (not just a spit patch) follwed by a dry patch (or 2 or 3). Then nipple needs to be dried out again with a couple of primers. Using Triple 7 powder I can usually get a followup shot off in about 5 minutes.

I'd stay with Pyrodex as I had accurace problems with 777
