Question about Swedish 6.5 x 55 ammo

Question:

Is a Norma 6.5 x 55 the same as a Win, Fed, or a Rem 6.5 x 55 swedish? The reason why I ask is Norma doesn't state swedish on the box of ammo and would much rather shoot 120gr then 140gr.

Yes it is the same and it will probably fit the chamber of your rifle better too. Plateau Hunter

Yes they are the same, I would say the reason is because Norma is a Swedish company if I remember correctly. If you plan on using the ammo in a military rifle most of them prefer the 139-140gr bullets, thats what the Swedish military used.
You will fall in love with the cartridge, mild report and good killing power on deer and the like. Good luck
Norma ammo is expensive, but VERY accurate and great brass for reloading.

It turn out when I bought the gun I had to have some gunsmithing work done to it and one of the things was the barrel. Luckly my gunsmith had a winchester .264 barrel laying around collecting dust. My rifle is now completely sporterized. I haven't even got to shoot it yet...CAN'T WAIT ANY LONGER!!!!

Yeah, tell me about how expenisve it is G&A wants $32 a box. I am wanting to reload and was looking at norma brass, but haven't made up my mind on bullets. I was thinking about nosler, norma,or serria, but wanted to shoot a 120gr first before I went out and bought a hundred of something and fine out that my rifle doesn't like it.

If that is correct I think you need 264 Win Mag Ammo and not 6.5x55.

I'm confused?? Since the .264 win is a belted catridge,and I believe has a larger case diameter than the 6.5 swedish, how could he rechamber the barrel to 6.5? Isn't it physically impossible to rechamber a larger case chamber to a smaller one? Chambering reamers remove metal, not add it. Maybe I'm missing the obvious. It's been known to happen. lol

You haven't heard about the reverse reamer set made by RCBS that will add metal back to your barrel?? :D j/k I am no gun expert by any means or claim to be!!! See what had happen was the treads were cut which in turn would remove the throat (chamber)of the barrel (when doing this you will move closer to the necked down part of the barrel which will give you more metal),then the barrel was re-treaded and re-chambered for 6.5 x 55 ammo. Honestly I am not sure what was done to the rifle, except that I have a .264 win barrel on my rifle now and it test shot in the green w/ 6.5 x 55 ammo!! If my gunsmith says it's fine then I will take his word on it!! Hopefully this clears the air!!!!lol :grin:

Obviously, if you moved the chamber forward enough, you would totally eliminate the old chamber, with the use of a hacksaw and a 6.5 chambering reamer. I was not thinking along those lines, and if it works, that's the bottom line. I was thinking in terms of the barrel remaining intact, and reforming the chamber from .264 to 6.5, which, of course, would be impossible(from larger to smaller).

As most of you now know the site lost 3 days of post so I ain't going to try to repost all I said in my last one on this. I also don't know what was posted after that post either.
