Question about bear check in.

I know they are listed by counties, but are they pin pointed to specific areas in the county?

The reason I ask this, there was a momma bear and 3 yearling cubs probably weighing about 60 to 70 lbs. that was regular passer bys my house. Sometimes through the yard.
Another momma with 2 cubs born last year were also regular visitors. They all disappeared last Oct. and no one I've talked has seen them either.

It is pretty normal for bears to be far ranging during the summer and early fall months. As time goes on in the fall, they restrict their travels to increasingly smaller areas around their winter den sites.

I'm guessing their is a large likelihood that the family groups you were seeing last year drifted back to their den areas and went up for the winter. Since bears under 75# and sows with cubs at side are not legal for take, I'm betting they aren't part of the harvest report. Once they come out from their dens in the new few months, you may see them again as they range out.

The one with 3 cubs evidently lives close by. She has been here 3 years or longer. She first brought the 3 cubs thru the yard when they were not bigger then house cats.

I'm not sure where you live in Townsend or how close to the town you are, but I heard that there had been a sow and 2 cubs they were trying to catch earlier this year. They had become garbage bears.
