My daughter has expressed interest in shooting/hunting with a ML. I shoot 90 gr Pyro and a 260 gr lead conical in my CVA Kodiak Mag. What would be an acceptable load of Pyrodex that would produce sufficient energy to use for her to deer hunt with? IIRC, I think I've heard that 70 gr Pyro would do, but just wanted to run it by the board to get all the experience and info I can before making a move. Thanks. :)

She's 13 btw, and shoots a Rem .243 with factory 100 gr Cor-Lokts with no problem concerning recoil.

70 gr. would be fine but, since it's a kids load, you could go even lower than that. I personally would try to get a kid a close shot and a load of 50-60 gr. with your 260 gr. conical would still have enough energy to kill a deer just fine. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I agree with RB. If she can put it in the boiler room you've got a dead deer...Just keep the shot close. Remember the old 38-55. It had a reputation of being a deer and bear killer with a load of 55 grains black powder and a 255 grain bullet.

Dad always sent us out with 50-60 grains until we were older. Does plenty to kill a deer. Like has already been said ahoy placement is key. Hope she does well.

I agree with the 50-70 grs being ok. Shot several with 60gr of " P " an round balls
