Putting down the bow?

I was wondering with muzzy season fast approaching who continues to bow hunt even during the other weapon seasons? Last year I bow hunted throughout the entire season and did kill a deer with my bow during rifle season. I guess maybe I'm still new to bow hunting (only really been doing it for last 5-6 years) and like the rush of having to get them in close. I figure I will at least continue through the rut before switching over. Any thoughts?

I'm a firearms and reloading freak who has less and less time each season due to having 3 kids and a job that requires travel. I have just about had to give up bow hunting and focus on ML and rifle. This season will likely have little to no ml due to moving.

I'm a year round bow hunter. For all seasons. I enjoy the challenge of it more so than the kill (don't get me wrong I LOVE to kill them). Bow hunting to me is like the greatest chest game ever played and I choose archery gear when engaging my opponent.

Like the challenge too as I only need to kill 1 a year for my family.

I like to kill one with the ML and I love hunting with my 30-30 almost as much as the bow. And now I have a .308 for the occasional field hunting. But I will still carry my bow occasionally throughout the whole season. It depends on the setup and what I'm trying to hunt.

Maybe twice to three times a year. Most of my spots only allow bow hunting anyway.

I find that I can still get the deer close, and shoot them with a ML or rifle. Never had an option actually, as I've never deer hunted an open field in my life.

Wasn't trying to start anything just asking what others were doing. I have hunted all seasons in the past and enjoyed them all. I have just really gotten into this bow hunting thing and enjoy it. Not trying to say everyone should only hunt with a bow.

I will use my bow most of the season. I have not killed a quality buck in the 6 years I been bow hunting. Mainly because there's been a lot I had to learn vs gun hunting.

I know hunters who will carry the bow and gun to the stand and try to use the bow but will fall back to the gun as needed. Do you true and blue bowhunters have an issue with this?

My buddy has hunted with his bow exclusively the last few seasons. My plan has been to use whatever method is legal until I get at least three in the freezer. Only happened once the last 5 seasons.

But you did it kind of sideways, didn't you? I agree that you should use whatever floats your boat as long as it's legal, but talking down to people because they are a lesser hunter than your 10 year old nephew in your view is condescending.

I have no issue with any method of harvest a hunter chooses, given it is within the game law.

To bow hunt all the time is a personal choice of mine. It is the way that I enjoy doing it. I don't feel as if everyone should think the way I do, or hunt the way I do, or scout the way I do, or use the same weapon as me. In contrast I don't think I should have to hunt the way other people choose to as long as I am not breaking the law to do so. We have that liberty under the game laws as individual hunters.

The reason I bow hunt all the time there was no longer a thrill in hunting with a gun or mzl. There is a certain amount of skill required to kill a deer at 20 yds compared to sitting in a heated box stand and shooting 300 yds. But no matter what have fun and get the rush

As a matter of fact the only true hunter will make his weapon from available resources. Then kill and process the animal. We as hunters have become lazy and slack. We don't kill for nesity we hunt for sport. So how can one form of laziness be better than another.Trophy hunting has taken the place of the kill and a doe is less supior than a 150" buck go figure

I love hearing that thump with a bow but if the season allows, I'm taking the most optimal weapon to the woods with me as I can. I've had to just watch too many bucks I would have taken if I had been carrying something other than my bow. If I can reach out or shoot through something with a bullet then a bullet it is.

This is about exactly how I see it as well Mike. I'm out there to kill a deer, hopefully a nice buck as well, and I want to make my little time afield count.
