Was watching Bill winke this past fall and he was showing off bis pumpkin patch he planted along the edges of his food plots . The yeild was incredible. Said the deer did eat some of them but it was more just for fun and farm decorations. My pumpkin seeds go in the ground on Saturday. Gonna put them on the edges of a few plots close to the house. Wish me luck.
 
I saw him doing that. The deer will sure eat them. We used to have a garden at our old farm and planted cantaloupe. We left one weekend with a bunch ready to pick the following weekend. We got down there the next weekend and the deer had stomped all of them and eaten them

I love the seeds…..thats about it. But we use a lot for decorating the old cabins , barns etc. plus the dogs love eating them and they are very nutritious for dogs
 
I've raised pumpkins for many years.. never have had any issues with deer.. here's one that was almost as big as my gator.. lol

Just for fun, I tried planting sweet potatoes in a plot. Deer ate them to the dirt. Couldn't get a plant going because deer ate them so fast.
 
I've unintentionally grown several little pumpkin patches. After Halloween it is a tradition (well I just found myself doing it) to take the pumpkins to our cabin to dispose of. I usually just throw them out somewhere. Well the next year, we'd have pumpkins growing. Last year I guess I left them on the front porch of our cabin on the steps. Because you couldn't utilize those stairs because of all the vines and pumpkins.

Same thing happened at our cabin. Pumpkins rotted on the edge of a porch. Now we have pumpkins growing below.

Winke said snyone could grow them. I do worry about the deer eating the juvenile plants because the density here is absurd and all our crop land is in corn so there are no beans to occupy them

Got em all planted and was blessed with a massive rain last light and this morning. So i horpe to ser some plants poking out by the end of the week
 
Deer dont bother them here but danged if the coons dont roll them over and hollow everyone of them out
 
I've planted so many it's not funny. When they are young and tender the turkeys and deer eat them but I probably have 15 different watermelons plants, 4-5 cantaloupes , and several different pumpkins I hope will make it. They all flexed after this rain .
 
I tossed out some pumpkin seeds last year while planting my summer plots and ended up with over a hundered pumpkins. I gave some away, sold some and left the rest for the deer. I went and broke a few open and within a week the deer were breaking them open on thier own and eating the insides. To say the least theres a ton more seeds in the field this year and they all sprouted on thier own. Once the deer find them to be food they stomp everyone they come to and feast on um.

How big did they get?
 
I hunt a farm that grows them. Deer eat on them but it seems to not be their main food source. Even the ones they leave in the field after picking don't really get eaten on by the deer. Now turkeys on the other hand love the pumpkin seeds go nuts over them during the winter when most are the acorns are gone.
