How many feet do you have to be off a public road to set up a deer blind and hunt out of it? I understand that it's illegal to shoot across a road

You have to be off the road right of way. The distance from the centerline of the road varies between state and county roads. The best source of information for that distance for the road you are interested in is likely the county road superintendent.
