I just saw that article posted on facebook. I don't know of any marshes where I hunt but it seems like solid advice.
 
I just wish I had a buddy with nothing to do at 4 in the morning except drive me around to my hunting spots...

I've used similar tactics, but I don't like walking along the roads to spots, because I feel like everyone is watching me. It's not like walking in plain clothes along a country road at 4:45 in the morning doesn't draw attention...

Still, I guess it's way better than parking next to a spot.

I have certainly used the proximity to water tactic to my advantage, but I've never killed any bucks of the size he's describing. I did, however, kill my best buck ever last year, on public land within 200 yards of the road.
 
also I usually park near where I walk in, but often you wouldn't know which side of the road I'm on. And often it's already a spot that people know of so I don't care if I'm seen. Turkey opener this year I had 2 trucks pass by because I parked there first and they didn't want to hunt there.

If I find a really crazy good secret overlooked sanctuary I might not be so visible when I hunt it.

I agree. Just last weekend I went in and scouted a peice of property. Walked a mile in and was walking out, got to within 100 yards of my truck and a big 6 pt crossed the logging road in front of me.

My first thought was....damn I just walked in a mile deep and here you are.......
 
Around here if you don't park where you walk in, somebody else will, and they will walk in right on top of you.

Few access points in these hills. Parking in the only access point can sometimes help to deter other hunters.

I have parked up the road a few hundred yards and walked back to my spot and then Joe Blow comes through and parks at my spot and walks up the road to his spot ..... Lololol

that has been the case for me several times. Sometimes it's good to park where people will see you and hopefully turn around.

However, if you have an unusual spot that everybody drives past, it might help to go down the road and park at a more "normal" spot. Just depends on the lay of the land I guess
