Question:
The Mathews Z7 Extreme vs. The PSE Evo 7.
Considering they are both top of the line bows and all things created equal as far as draw length and poundage.
Which one one "you" take to the woods for whitetail.
I'd take the Z7 Extreme.
 
I honestly cant say ones any better than the other... you have to go and find what is going to suit you better. I have shot both. Both will kill deer. Mathews felt the best in my hand. If it was the other way around i woulda bought the pse and not thought twice about it.

You can change the grip lol.

I'd shoot every model of both companies, personally the Monster is just as smooth as the Z7 but faster so i shoot the Monster 7" brace height

Plus the EVO comes in 75% let-off vs. 80% and not to mention that it is slower than the MONSTER at the same brace heights.
 
Negatory there bud. I had an MR6 back in the summer at same draw length (28.5) and draw weight (70) as my Evo. Shooting the same arrows...Gold Tip Pro Hunter 75/95s. MR6 was in the 315 bracket @ 70lbs vs the Evo at 68 lbs in the mid 320s. Also the MR6 ran a half inch long on the actual measured AMO draw length vs the Evo being spot on. Evo is also quieter but I will say that it does come standard with a crapload of sound dampener devices all over it. BUT if I had to pick a bow in the Mathews line it would either be an MR6 again or believe it or not, a 60 lb Jewel. Bow vs bow though, it's the Evo for me over the rest.

I only want to help.

In the past couple months, with all the rain, I have decided to shoot a bunch of Mathews bows. From the New Helim to the Mathews Mission Venture (a price range from about 900 to about 500).

I really wanted to see for myself what all the hype is about.

I found out about what I thought. HYPE!!!

I was really disappointed in the Z7 Extreme. I thought it would be MUCH sweeter than it was. And like so many other high dollar bows out there right now, it had a VERY hard back wall.

Everyone is different when it comes to shooting bows. I have preferences as do most but I DO NOT LIKE a bow with a very, VERY short valley.

Many of the Mathews bows I tried hit their break-over let off, and IMMEDIATELY went through their valley to a hard back wall.

For me, this spells potential trouble in a tree stand. THere are too many times when I am at full draw following a deer, only to have it walk closer which causes a momentary shift in holding pressure as I am sizing up the next shot window. Fluctuations in holding pressure at full draw can EASILY cause VERY quick and un expected let-off for a bow with a let off like a set mouse trap.

It feels like a forward creep of about 1/4 inch will cause cam roll over and hurl your release hand toward the rest.

And finding a mathews (or maybe any bow) with a brace height over
7 3/4 inches but a price tag under 700.00...GOOD LUCK.

The price tags of these new bows is INSANE.

Somebody is making a bunch of money!

And for WHAT?

I have owned, competed with, and hunted with some VERY expensive bows. I have also owned some really cheap ones.

ALL would kill deer and win tournaments.

It is NOT the bow.

Find a good feeling bow with SEALED bearings, quality construction, and a really GOOD warranty. But you DO NOT have to spend over 500.00 to do this.

I have shot both and as far as a rugged bow for the true hunter the PSE EVO is the best vote in my opinion........the Z7 is not as good quality as an older Matthews ........since the Switchback era there Quality has gone to the wayside.
 
I will totally agree with 102 that newer mathews bows are not forgiving at all. Ive nearly had my shoulder pulled out from creep as well. Not much room for error.
 
I too was not that impressed with the Extreme...thought my Switchback XT shot much better...have'nt shot the Evo as of yet, but I have hunted with older PSE bows and they performed well. I've hunter with Parker, which I really liked and taken whitetail with an XI.Owned a Bowtech once and hated that bow, but I have friends that love em.Just goes to show that one man's love of a certain bow might be another man's hate.As said by others, if you can hit and kill with it..by all means use whatever bow gets the job done.
 
To each their own....I've been a Mathews user for a number of years...up untill the last year they made the Switchback XT I would'nt touch another bow..now, unless the 2012 line up can convince me to stay, I am considering a possible change in the future. I hate that they no longer produce the XT...best bow IMO that Mathews ever built...the DXT is a wonderful piece of equipment also...Not a big fan of the Monster line up for some reason none really felt right in my hands, and as stated before the Z7 Extreme does'nt blow me away..the Z7 Tactical does as far as looks but looks does'nt kill deer. No matter, fall in love with the bow..not the maker..and success will follow.

Think u had a sick bow..lol. My monster(The first one) 6" brace measured 28" draw and 60# shoots a 396gr a/c/c 3-49 @314, so would think .5" draw and 10#s should do better than that.
 
My monster and My buddys bow are both awesome shooting and the fastest things going at three years old at the tournaments when checked. Its durable, I hunt 995 of the time with a bow and only missed about 12 days this whole tennessee season not hunting. I know there are other great bows out there . The Evo for one is PSE best bow in years and if I switched over today that would be the bow But they have had more problems with t having a come apart than any mathews ever made. The hoyt warranty is a lifetime product warranty. Whisc means when they dont make it anymore your warranty is no good . Thats from the Hoyt dealers mouth. Mathews Warranty is great they say, I dont know anybody that has ever had to use it. My son loves his PSE EVO and I like it to but side by side and we shot the same size and weight, Its not as Fast, or smooth. Its quiter but he doesnt have a quiver on his bow.
Both are Great Bows and they both will put a arrow where you want it.

i have,twice. had a cable break on my zmax and cracked both limbs. replaced no questions asked. my outback was shooting all over the place and we couldn't get it tuned. on closer inspection, it also had a cracked limb. again replaced no questions asked.
 
As stated before the Mathews seem to average a full half inch longer on actual measured AMO draw length than what the sticker on the bow says. Once you put it in spec and tune it, it should be near the AMO draw length but they usually aren't. If you twist the string you can get the bow in spec as far as correct on measured AMO length but then your poundage will be off by nearly 8 pounds on the heavy side. They run long...anybody that shoots a lot of them will confirm that. Just take a stroll over on Archery Talk and read some of the "vs" type threads.

This is a great example here. This Evo measured AMO at full draw, spot on what it should be. The Elite Answer and K&K Vindy are the same way....spot on or within a 1/4 inch at spec, and bottomed out within 2 lbs of limbs spec.

I had two Mathews bows back in the summer...had the Z7 Magnum and an MR6. In shooting the Magnum in the store I noticed it felt quite a bit long. We checked the spec on it and it was in tune but the actual measured AMO draw on that particular bow was just over 1/2 inch long. I had to drop to a 28" draw on the sticker, to get a bow that was actually 28.5 AMO measured. When I got the MR6, they hadn't even got a demo in the stores yet. I ordered it blind and went on past experience. I ordered it as a 28" bow. When it finally came in, we put it in spec, and I noticed it still felt a tad long. That bow came in at a measured AMO draw of OVER a half inch longer than what was on the sticker. You have to watch out for that. Stickers on a bow can and will lie...a tape measure don't. My wife's Jewel actually came it right on its sticker draw though...were actually having to get her a half inch longer cam but their speedier bows are notorious for running long on draw. Spec per spec if the MEASURED AMO draw is the same, same arrow weight, poundage, the Evo 6 vs MR6...the Evo will edge it out. There was even a $1000 wager on one of the Archery Talk threads about this but nobody stepped up to the plate on it.
