And was amazed at sheer amount of fat on this deer. It had a full 1,5" of fat over the backstraps and the kidney fat looked like it was sprayed in out of a can. Also, both front hooves were cracked. Thought that was odd for such an obviously healthy critter

I've butchered four deer this year so far (two does from the porch and a spike from a friend, plus my 8pt) and all of them have more fat than any deer I remember down here in Tennessee. Nothing to eat out there but old dead grass in hay fields right now so they will need all the fat they have.

I make lube for patch/ball/bullets with deer fat/tallow and bees wax. I have enough from the buck I just processed to make a few years of lube for me & my sons. Crazy fat deer.

It takes a lot of soybeans to make that much fat

Nice deer! Cracked hooves can mean that he is an EHD survivor if I remember correctly. I've killed several like that through the years.

The doe I shot back during archery season had a surprising amount of fat on her. It was reminiscent of deer I'd taken around agriculture fields in the past. She'd definitely been eating good somewhere.
