Problem w/ Lee 30-06

Full Length Sizer Die (Lee -30/06-G9)
I just recieved the set of dies and have problem w/ the case getting stuck. I am using SureShot lube. When the case makes it less than 1/4" into the neck sizer the case is getting stuck.

The dimension below are what I have come up w/ after taking the die apart and measuring the neck of the case and the decapper pin.

Decapper pin (interior neck sizer): .307"
Exterior of neck (3/16" part that was sized): .324"
Exterior of neck (not resized): .341
Interior of neck: .292"

Numbers from Hornady manual:
Neck Diameter: .339
Do believe the neck size will increase once the casing is removed from the die.

The only other rifle rounds I have reloaded are 243 and have not run into this problem. I am afraid that if I lay my weight on the press the casing will get stuck for good.

Am I being paranoid due to my inexperience or does this sound like a problem?

If a new die set did you clean them and pre lube them?
Double check to make sure it is a 3006 die?
When in doubt send them back.

Simply could be the dies themselevs and not one thing wrong with them.I have a set of Hornady's that one needs to STAND on to resize in them while the same caliber in RCBS are nice,the cases do come out easier than they go in btw but I won't use the former for fear of breaking my bench top it is that bad.Been meanin to send the sizer back just never have yet.

That die dimension does sound a little small. On my full length size RCBS 30 caliber dies they size down to about .329 without the expander in place. It sounds like your dies are about .005 tighter than that. They should still size ok though if you've got a small smount of case lube on the inside and outside of the case neck. You don't by any chance have the decapper and expander plug lowered too far into the die? If you do the expander would bottom out on the inside of the case head while sizing the neck and if you put too much force you will bend the decapping rod. The decapping and expander rod should only be low enough to punch out the primer....take it out and try sizing without it in place and you'll have your answer.

Cant even punch the primers out before its getting stuck. Thats when I took it appart and attempted resizing w/o the decapper and it was still getting stuck.

Back to square one. Go for it. If it sticks you can always send the die back to Lee with a case in it. If it sticks somethings wrong and needs to be replaced anyway. Good luck!

Cleaned the dies, loaded it in the press and its working.

Figured I would give it one more shot and if it gets stuck, the die aint workin right and would have to send it back anyway.

Took a 44cal copper brush inside the die, then wiped interior w/ Sureshot, then dry wiped it.

Thanks for the advice and another lesson learned for the novice reloader.

Incidentally, I usually take a little case lube on a q-tip and wipe it around the inside of my die before I start loading each time. Sometimes the first two or three run through the die are a little stiff if I don't do this.

Would forget my head if it wasn't hooked on... Any way For New Dies I use a a pistol cleaning rod,a oversized patch and regular ol bore cleaner,take the dies apart and run a patch let set for a few min and dry patch,per lube the the sizer as you did. Pays to clean'em ever so often as well. A can of Crud Cutter or similar is also good to use.

I had that problem with Lyman dies. Had to walk the dang table all over the room when operating that press handle.

I quit using Lyman dies, I also quick using that "spray on" Hornady One Shot.

I'm back to the roll pad. Messy but smooth.


I've also started neck dipping the cases in powdered mica before resizing. The make a carbide neck button but I ain't gotten one yet.
