My father passed away 2 years ago and unfortunatley so did his recipe for deer roast which was out of this world. I am looking for a little help recipe wise.Any suggestions for the almighty pressure cooker?

Hi rob,

Sorry you for your lose.

Personally, I prefer to use the Crock Pot, but a PC is good also. I use my PC about everyday to cook my fresh veggies in.

Take the roast and brown it in the PC in a little oil or shortening, add salt & pepper, 2 medium onions sliced,4 carrots sliced, 4 med potatoes halved or qtred, a sm. can of diced tomatoes & 1c of water.

pending on weight (10 or 15 lb) 40-50 mins of controled giggle for a 10, 30-40 mins for a 15.

Let cool 5 mins. run under the tap and open carefully.

should be good eats.

Sounds good Fulldraw! I will give it a try this weekend.Do you brown it in the pot with the lid on? then release the pressure and add the rest of the ingredients and continue cooking?

brown with lid off first, then add everything, lock lid and heat, when it starts to giggle, adj the heat so it just giggles nice and steady for the recommended time.

cook 6 peices of bacon in it & then brown the roast in the grease, add onions, salt & pepper & 2 cups of water,or the amount your size of P Cooker calls for,mike243

The weight that is placed on the top of the PC at the nipple, they come in different weights 10lb, 15lb, etc.

It takes 10lbs of pressure to lift a 10lb weight and expel the steam, it will start to giggle or spudder at which time you turn the heat down to regulate the temp and giggle rate. Higher heat..............more giggle & so on.

I forget the exact formula, but I believe it is @ 2 degs increase for every lb of weight. So 15lb weight increases the temp above boiling by 30 degs. The reason being canned meat requires a min. of 240degs. Boiling only produces 212.

That is how and why compressed steam generates such high temps.
