I have no idea why but this popped in my head today.

I know there are people that are stockpiling equipment and supplies.
Food, water, weapons etc.

What if someone approached you, because they knew you were getting ready for whatever comes along.
They propose that they give you X number of dollars to buy extra "stuff", be that food, ammo, guns, whatever.

In return if the SHTF, this person and his family kinda just moves in with you and uses a portion of the equipment.

If nothing ever happens, well you just keep everything you bought with their money.

Would you go for that?

In theory... yes, because it's easy money and I don't think anything will happen that drastic in my lifetime.

In reality, no... because I do not want to be responsible for someone else if that scenario were to occur. That would be a true life/death situation and my only priority would be my family.

Funny random tidbit.. a guy I work with stock piles food for just such a situation.. 5 gallon buckets of wheat, flour, etc... yet, doesn't own a firearm! I make fun of him, and he says I'll be starving with the SHTF. I tell him I'm just going to rob him at gunpoint. :)

It depends on the dollar amount and what you/they consider "necessary items".

Here's the deal, you could have 5 years worth of supplies, but if it is only you and your wife and kids to defend it, you will run into problems eventually. So, in your hypothetical situation, if they give you enough money for a minimum of 6 months worth of water, food, and a means to protect it, I would say yes because of the extra people you will have for securing your property. Make sure they know how to use firearms and train with them regularly or they will be a liability.

You need to get to know your "like minded" neighbors and get them on board NOW. It will take a community of like minded individuals with thoroughly thought out scenarios to survive the coming storms.

And needless to say, you need to trust this individual 100%.

IMO here are my priorities:

Water
Food
Security
Medications - life saving prescriptions; diabetics, etc. for your family.

To answer Ruger's question I would only do that if I trusted that person 100% with my family's life. Not too many people in my life that I trust that much. I'd like to think there were more but in a true SHTF situation where lives are on the line I believe folks would change.

I think that not only is a SHTF possible in our lifetime, it is likely. The United States credit rating has been devalued a couple times in just the last two years. Sooner or later we will not be able to borrow any more money to feed the deadbeats. Couple that with a serious disaster whether natural or man made and we have SHTF. It won't take much folks.

People do that everyday, in fact it's part of some people's plan. It's the part of the old saying, there is safty in numbers. Like said before, just you and your family is so many people and against an armed mob you all could lose fast.

The part that makes this work is a big enough place for the people making the group. One house in a neighborhood is not going to work for a group. A farm with several buildings and enough space is more suited for the group. if that's out the next best thing is to get a couple nextdoor neighbors to form a group and each family puts their share in and everybody on the same page.

There are folks here establishing "units" of family and like minded individuals that will band together when/if the time comes. Units get together and go through weapons training, each has their own assignments they are head of, like security, food, sanitation, etc, etc. Everyone even has standard issue weapons.

Negative! You cannot control what other folks will do in a high stress situation. If you do not have an intimate relationship, you cannot predict their behavior. No matter how well you think you know them. When people see no way out, their whole demeanor changes and they care about no one but themselves and their intimate relationships. As soon as things have to be rationed or things get just a little worse than they were the day before, it all goes down hill. Eventually you'll end up having to either kill them or figure out how to leave them behind.

Does anyone remember that movie "The Mist"? The crazy lady that turned into the obsessed God fearing crazy and started a "Cult" that wanted to sacrifice people because she was determined that the things happening were because God was mad at humans. That lady is exactly why you do not invite folks that you are not in an intimate relationship with to be part of your survival tactic.

By intimate, I mean, father, daughter, son, grandpa, mother, and etc..

The people taking the money are the ones selling this "prepping" idea. Just another money making scam based on scaring people.

Just refer to the Ant and the Grasshopper scenario. Everyone needs to contribute. When the SHTF does happen, paper money will be useless. The Food, Fuel, Firearms, ammo and medicines will be the only things of value.

I guess i've always been a prepper , even before it was the "in" thing. I've just always been one of those people that believes in being prepared for anything.

Same here.

I don't think anybody is scaring anybody and then making money off it. I've been preaparing long before most people ever though of it. But I'll tell you all this, todays world is totally different from the one I grew up in and I grew up learning all about communist and dictatorships and I can see it coming closer than most people will beleive it is happening.

I wouldn't do it nor would I be prepping for a long term plan of staying put, when the SHTF the only logical plan is to extract your loved ones out, having something of value to trade for fake passports and documents and then bug out... Far away. Keep only enough supplies to last till you get somewhere else and then it is time to start over where ever you are. JMO

I guess you have never seen the TV show Doomsday Preppers or seen any of the prepackaged 5 gallon buckets full of food. There are plenty of people now and more to come that will cash in huge as this becomes the "fear of the week". Just like Y2K, bird flu, etc,etc....

Those 5 gallon buckets of food have been on the market for years and years! It's not like someone just came up with the idea and decided to market it to make money off of the multitude of doomsday preppers.
I would also venture to say that things have been written into history as well as into the future by our ancestors and by the ancestors of MANY nations all over the globe that could have had no possible way of communication, thousands of years ago. As far as I can tell "Y2K, the bird flu, etc., etc.." wasn't one of them! If you buy into the "Idea" that the world is going to last forever, then it's obvious that you're "winging it" and that won't last long.
I can also just about promise this; If this years elections go sour, there WILL be major problems. Not only in our country, but across the globe. It's always a good idea to have a plan and being prepared is just that.

As soon as you see the sign that says "You are now within range.", you better heed that warning, and proceed with caution!

Y2K. :D
what a buildup to a big nothing. I remember being in a grocery store and almost seeing a fist fight break out when a pallet of bottled water was brought in.

I'll take my chances. No I dont believe the world is going to last forever, but I also dont think it will end in my lifetime or my kids or grandkids lifetimes and for many generations beyond that. And if I am wrong, oh well, nothing I could have done about it anyway. Personally I dont want to live a life in constant fear it will all end tommorow nor do I want to be the last man standing.

yes I've seen them but they DID NOT SCARE PEOPLE into buying anything like you said. All they are doing is selling that stuff to a MARKET that's there and has been there for years.

Also who said anything about the WORLD ENDING???

SHTF can mean any number of things but NOT THE END OF THE WORLD, once THAT happens forget it there is nothing anybody can do except trust in their God and make right with Him.

Think it has not happened before?? Look though history, there are LOTS of SHTF happenings in all countries and times. Look up the Weimar Republic of Germany, that was a real SHTF. That same thing CAN happen in any country inculing the United States.

Would you say the American Revolutionary War and the Civil War was SHTF happenings?? Thousands of Americans were killed and thousands of homes were burned down each time. To me they were real SHTF's.

But then that's YOUR choice. You can be one of the ones that got certain things ready or one of the ones that are rioting in the streets trying to help their family because they can't get anything.
